Shift choices-
4 pm- 4 am- they would work only as the admitting physician during this shift
7p- 7 a- ( admitting and cross coverage) would work with another physician providing house coverage and assuming responsibility for up to 9 pts or encounters
8a- 8 p( admitting only)
7 a 7 p ( admitting and rounding )
Our admitting shifts average about 9 admits with 11 max
Our rounding shifts average 16-19 encounters total.
Hospital employed internal medicine hospitalist physicians practice in a group environment. They have a morning checkout in the library where they discuss and distribute patients the distribution of patients is decided amongst themselves. They have a medical director and assistant medical director and these directors report to the chief medical officer.
-Hospitalists are not expected to do procedures.
-Hospitalist service does oversee the ED observation unit.
